OVERVIEW

MOTIGOALS is a mobile app motivates the user to achieve their goals in life. Users will get scheduled inspirational quote notification to encourage and remind them of their set goals.

PROBLEM

College students find themselves hard to concentrate on their work. They tend to procrastinate and use social media instead.

SOLUTION

Provide a platform for users to plan and set their goals. Motivate them with inspirational quotes and let them compete with their peers.

RESEARCH

I interviewed 3 college students to identity the key problem. I used time-based analysis to record their daily schedule.

FINDINGS

They have difficult time to focus on their homework. They find social media more interesting and check on different social medias often when they are procrastinating.

User Flow

INITIAL DESIGN

Following the identification of the key user flow, I sketched the initial solutions and shared with other designers. Then I put the key screens into clickable prototype and test with 3 users.

REFINED DESIGN

After their feedback from initial user test, I reorganized the key flows and put more focus on one feature instead of multiple functions. Next I put the higher fidelity design into click-able prototype and test with 3 other users again.

USER TESTING

GOALS

Do users find it easy to add goals, check their goals, see their scores, share with friends and find the notification system encouraging?

METHOD

I conducted 4 usability field tests with other designers, instructing them to add goals, check their goals, see their scores, share with friends and get notifications.

FINDINDS

Participants were able to add their goals, but they find the notification box confusing with not clear buttons to the next step.

FINAL DESIGN

ITERATION

After extensive user testing, I learned users are more engaged when they can get rewards from their contribution. To emphasis on the rewards, I added level systems and badges to the home screen. I also learned the notification box was confusing with different types of buttons on the same screen. Therefore I simplify the buttons which making it clear for user to understand.

The final design is a simple flow that allows users to add goals, check their goals, see their scores, share their scores with friends and get motivation from the notification quotes.
